PDI Security Systems started with one promise: protect life and property, and treat people right while doing it.

That promise goes back to 1964, when Robert “Bob” Burke, a New York City Police Officer, saw firsthand how hard it was for regular families and business owners to find a security company they could actually trust. So he started Protection Devices, Inc. himself, using proven security equipment to create affordable, dependable systems tailored to each customer’s needs—and installing and setting them up with the care and attention they deserved.

His son, Chris Burke, grew up watching that work happen. He spent more than a decade with the Reno Police Department, including time on the SWAT Team and the Gang Unit, before stepping in to run PDI full time. Under Chris, the company grew across the Reno-Sparks area without losing what made it work in the first place: showing up, doing the job honestly, and sticking around after the install was done.

Today PDI is a third-generation, family-owned business, with Derek Burke carrying the mission forward. Derek spent 12 years in the Army National Guard, including a combat deployment to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He brings that same discipline to how PDI trains its technicians and treats its customers across Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and the rest of Northern Nevada.

PDI is licensed under Nevada State Contractor License #34803 and Nevada State Fire Marshall #F296.
